Arvada campers found safe after venturing into mountains near Ward during bomb cyclone

Two young adults who headed for the mountains to go camping just as a were found safe late Friday morning, Arvada police said.

Michael Lee Gomez, 20, and Olivia Megan Schack, 19, were found near Ward.

“The couple was stranded and waited out storm walking to a nearby home,” an Arvada police report says.

Gomez and Schack left Tuesday as the historic blizzard was tearing through the mountains.

Since then, up to 48 inches of snow had piled up in the mountains.
