Crestone wells near Erie to be plugged

Crestone Peak Resources will plug and abandon the wells at the Pratt Location south of Erie near County Road 6 and Columbine Way over the coming weeks.

“A traffic management plan will be in place during this activity,” which is expected to last six weeks, according to a town of Erie press release.

Crews will begin by pulling the tubing out of the wells, according to the release, before they “set a permanent plug in the wellbore.” Then they will “cement the well per Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission regulations” before welding the entire contraption shut from the bottom with a metal plate.

Crews will repeat the process for each of seven wells on the site. Additionally, most, if not all, the equipment currently on sight will removed.

This process also will include the short-term rehabilitation of the site which consists of grading, re-contouring and re-seeding.
