Kamilla Macar: Young people‘s climate change protest raised hope

There are several things that have given rise to hope in my heart concerning the climate challenge lately:

The protest of young people all over the world on March 15, which urged adults to do what is necessary to create a sustainable world. The contribution that Paul Hawken has made in editing the book “Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming.” This book describes the 100 best practices and ideas for creating a sustainable world. The cost of each, and the monetary benefit of each, is included. There are many people in the world seeking solutions to the atmospheric mess we find ourselves in. The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act now before the House of Representatives, HR-763, provides the opportunity for the U.S. government to take a huge, positive step toward sustainability. The same act will hopefully be introduced into the Senate in the near future. And then there is the huge challenge — getting the leaders of the world‘s governments to come together with a sense of urgency given the dire situation we face, with a willingness to make the hard decisions to take immediate, effective action based on the latest science.

May we all take a cue from the protests of the young people of the world to help build the political will to get the job done as quickly as possible.
