ASHBURN — Redskins safety said Thursday he’s “way ahead” in his recovery of a shoulder injury, nearly two months after he had surgery to repair a partially torn labrum.

was operated on in December. He missed the last four games of the season, finishing the year with 96 tackles.

Asked if he would be able to participate in OTAs this spring, said he did not know yet.

“I’m way ahead of it,” said. “It’s definitely on schedule.”

The injury didn’t give the Redskins any hesitation in signing him to a six-year, $84 million deal. The two parties agreed to terms hours into the league’s negotiating window on Monday.

“When you see him on the field, you knew that he was one of the best football players on the field,” senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams said. “You’re not talking about a 29-year-old guy. You’re talking about a 25-year-old you can see playing for the next six, seven years.

“And to be able to get him in the mix, put him in this defense with the guys, the young guys that we have up front, it’s hard to not want a guy like that on your football team.”
