Police: man tried to kidnap, strangle woman in parked car

METHUEN, Mass. (AP) – Police in Methuen say they’ve arrested a man for attempting to kidnap a woman while she was sitting in her car.

The incident happened Friday night in the parking lot of a Market Basket supermarket.

The victim, who police didn’t identify, told police that 53- year-old Lawrence resident forced his way into her car, grabbed her by the throat and pushed her further into the vehicle.

The woman said she screamed for help and beeped the car horn before another man came to her aid. fled on foot but was eventually arrested by police.

He’s expected to be arraigned Monday in Lawrence District Court on charges of strangulation, attempted kidnapping, attempted carjacking and assault and battery. It couldn’t be immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
