Ron Gager: Presidential Oath of Office needs an edit

Rudy Giuliani, President Trump‘s most recent consigliere, said recently that because Trump wasn‘t under oath when he lied, then there is no fault or foul.

If that is true, then I propose a very simple but also radical change for American presidents. Let‘s edit the Presidential Oath of Office to include a promise never to ever lie to the American people, thus saving us all an immense amount of frustration and saving people like Sarah Huckabee Sanders the onerous task of covering for a serial lier like Trump (such as the occasion when Sanders admitted that Trump had made up a story about how Japan drops bowling balls on American cars to test their safety, and then argued that the story still “illustrates the creative ways some countries are able to keep American goods out of their markets”). I hope this isn‘t too much to ask of our presidents.
